The problem with a beautiful portfolio site
Interior design sites are built to be looked at. Full-bleed photography, minimal copy, a project grid, a contact form. For a human browsing on a laptop, that's often the right call.
For a machine, it's close to empty. Text baked into images cannot be read. A project titled "Residence 04" says nothing about whether it was a three-bedroom apartment in Jaipur or a farmhouse in Goa. There's no statement of budget range, timeline, service model or the neighbourhoods served — which is exactly the information a recommendation depends on.
So when a prospective client asks an AI engine for a designer, the studio with the more beautiful work often loses to the one with a plainer site that actually says what it does.
What clients actually ask
These are the question shapes that matter — note that none of them is a keyword:
- "Who are good interior designers in Jaipur for a luxury apartment?"
- "How much does it cost to do interiors for a 3BHK in Rajasthan?"
- "What's the difference between turnkey and design-only interior services?"
- "How long does a full home interior project take?"
- "Which designers handle both residential and commercial work in Jaipur?"
Every one of those is a page you could own. Most studios have written none of them.
What to build
Describe projects in words, not just pictures
Each project needs a text block a machine can read: property type, size in square feet, location, scope, style, timeline, and what problem you solved. "A 2,400 sq ft three-bedroom apartment in Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur — full turnkey execution over fourteen weeks, contemporary with traditional Rajasthani detailing" is retrievable. "Residence 04" is not.
Answer the cost question honestly
Cost is the most-asked and least-answered question in this industry. A page giving genuine ranges — per square foot by finish level, what's included, what drives variation — will be cited constantly, because so few competitors will publish one. Ranges with clear caveats are enough; you don't have to publish a price list.
Explain your service model
Turnkey versus design-only versus consultation is a real decision clients are trying to make, and they ask AI engines to explain it. A clear page on how your engagements work answers a genuine question and positions you as the explainer.
Get the local layer right
Everything in GEO for local businesses applies with full force here: complete Google Business Profile, identical details everywhere, and a steady flow of recent reviews. Design is a high-trust, high-value purchase — review signals carry more weight than in most categories.
What we did for MS Interio
We built msinterio.in for a Jaipur interior design studio — 35+ projects, 250,000+ sq ft designed, established 2019. The build was structured for machine readability from the first line: clean semantic HTML, described projects, explicit service definitions and structured data identifying the studio as a local business with a defined service area.
We're now tracking its AI-visibility baseline across engines. When there are honest before-and-after numbers to publish, they'll appear in the case study — not before.
The fastest win. If you do one thing this month: write 150 words of real description under every project in your portfolio. It costs an afternoon and converts an invisible gallery into retrievable content.
Frequently asked
Will adding lots of text ruin my visual design? +
It doesn't have to. Descriptive text can sit in a collapsible panel, below the fold, or on the individual project page while the grid stays purely visual. What matters is that the text exists in the HTML — not that it dominates the layout.
Should I publish my prices? +
Ranges, yes — not a fixed price list. 'Full-home interiors typically run ₹X–₹Y per sq ft depending on finish level' answers the question honestly, gets cited, and pre-qualifies enquiries. Total silence on cost pushes the client toward whichever competitor did answer.
Do image alt tags help? +
They help, and most design sites neglect them entirely. But alt text is a supplement to real body copy, not a substitute — it's a caption, not a description of scope.
